We Work Hard To Provide You A Trusted Source
for Your Investments and Collection
We’re a coin shop! And a large one at that, serving the entire Northeast Florida area, as well as Southern Georgia. We strive for education, fairness, and the promotion of the Coin-Collecting hobby. We buy, sell, and appraise rare coins, as well as paper money and tangible investments of precious metals like gold and silver. We’re a full-service coin dealer, so while we specialize in U.S. coins and paper, we do offer a selection of World coins and currency, Ancient coins and artifacts, Gold and Silver bullion coins and bars, some platinum and palladium, “Junk” or Constitutional pre-1964 90% silver, and coin and paper collecting-supplies like holders, albums, and books.
We offer free verbal appraisals on your coin collections and bullion, and a written appraisal, generally for Insurance or Estate Purposes, for a fee. For Insurance appraisals, please reach out to your insurance company to see what is required for your specific policy or company to make sure our service will qualify. We do accept collection drop-offs for purchase-evaluation or appraisal and encourage customers with large, very time-consuming collections to use this option, but you’re more than welcome to have us go over the collection with you while instore if you’re more comfortable and time allows. While we do not offer official appraisals on jewelry, we do buy and sell gold and silver new and estate jewelry and sterling silverware. We have an eclectic shop and understand why people may assume, but we do not deal in most antiques or stamps.
If you’d like an idea on what we’d buy your coins or items for, generally the price is determined by the Date of Issue, Mintage of Issue, Condition or Grade, Popularity or demand, and Liquidity. For this reason, especially for Condition, we do in most cases have to see the coins in person and request that you come by our physical shop for a evaluation. We do not currently offer appointments but we do strive to limit each customers’ wait time and help in an efficient manner. Most our employees can help with general services available to the public and most collections, but we as a team each specialize in different areas so we may trade out as necessary to have the best person help you for each item. If you have a question, please ask. We do strive to educate our coin collecting community, mature your collection, and point you in the right direction, but also offer transparency and fairness when buying your collection or selecting what investment suits your personal goals to the best of our ability.
We offer an extensive inventory selection, and much of it is on display. From uncertified to certified, from Numismatic Collectors to Bullion and Stackers, we likely have it or can get it. If you don’t see it in-store, ask! We may have additional inventory behind the counter or online, and especially for bullion we can place special orders to meet your quantity needs. Our Company
We were founded in 1963 by Emory M. Robinson, long time hobbyist, coin lover and collector himself. Edgewood Coin Co. opened at 934 Edgewood Ave S, directly next to the Murray Hill Theatre, which he also owned at the time, in its movie-showing days. Edgewood Coin started as a hobby-turned-side business, and become his sole, full time work, selling the movie theatre and eventually expanding the coin shop from 934 Edgewood Ave S, right next door to a then newly-remodeled and bigger venue, 936 Edgewood Ave. S, where we are still today. In his later years in life, when asked when he was going to retire, Emory would say that he was, and had been for years (despite the fact that he was running a business); he was just doing what he loved. He was a pillar and vast depth of knowledge in establishing the coin community as we know it today, especially in our local community.
Our current space at 936 Edgewood Ave S, housed his hobbies and interests, from coins, to currency, to long conversations with close customers and friends, to a diverse bank collection, collectible bottles, artwork, and historical pieces displayed high and low. As a family business, family centers as a priority and theme and kids were raised partially within those same walls. Emory was founder and owner of the company, up until his passsing in January of 2018, survived by his wife Patsy, who owned and operated it for years but has now retired. The family’s still here, with Emory and Patsy’s daughter-in-law Lisa their son Johnny’s wife, and grandaughters Jessica and Sarah, continuing ownership and management.
We strive to be a service to our community and conduct ourselves with the honesty and integrity modeled to us by our founder as well our faith. Our employees really are our family, our customers are our friends. We have “regulars” that stop in for a cup of coffee and browse for hours, and while not officially affiliated we are strong supporters of our local Greater Jacksonville Coin Club (visit gjcc.net for more info on the club, meetings, and the coin shows they host).
We’re also Members of additional organizations, like the American Numismatic Association and clubs throughout the U.S. Southeast. We are an authorized PCGS and NGC dealer, and listed on the United States Mint’s site directory for bullion coin sellers (https://catalog.usmint.gov/bullion-dealer-locator/#Florida).
We’re locally founded and operated in the historic Jacksonville area of Murray Hill (visit https://www.visitjacksonville.com/neighborhoods/murray-hill/ to check out more to do in this awesome area!), west of downtown Jacksonville, FL – just two doors down from the Murray Hill Theatre, now a non-profit Christian music venue, and catty-corner to another long-time favorite for all of Jacksonville, the infamous Dreamette!
We’re located on a walkable street with multiple food options, coffee shops, salons/barbers, yoga, and a Public Library, with free parking both directly in front of our store as well as a store/theatre-shared larger parking lot between our store-strip and the library.
